As a requirement of the F-1 international student visa, all DigiPen (Singapore) students taking part in the Overseas Immersion Program students need to obtain a valid health insurance plan. Proof of insurance must be submitted to the Student Life & Advising Office at studentlife.sg[at]digipen[dot]edu prior to departing for your semester at the Redmond campus.
Please read over your insurance policy carefully and be familiar with the process of using your insurance when necessary. While in the U.S., be sure to keep your insurance card with you at all times in case of emergency.
Familiarize yourself with the location of the closest hospitals and urgent care clinics and how to get there.
Do not go to the emergency room unless it is an emergency! There is a difference between hospital emergency rooms and urgent care clinics. Insurance companies generally do NOT cover emergency room charges unless it is deemed an emergency and you are admitted on in inpatient basis. Use an urgent care clinic if it is not an emergency situation. Before requesting treatment, ask at the front desk if you are unsure what type of facility it is.
